Glory for Gates at CDC Continental Cup

Leonard Gates secured victory at the 2024 CDC Continental Cup, marking a historic achievement as the first player to win multiple titles in this tournament. His triumph in Philadelphia qualifies him for the upcoming Mr. Vegas Grand Slam of Darts next month. Gates began his campaign with a narrow 5-3 win over Nick Linberg and then advanced through the knockout stages, defeating Doug Boehm 6-3 and overcoming 2022 champion Alex Spellman 7-5 in the semi-finals, where he staged a remarkable comeback from a 3-1 deficit.

In the final, Gates faced Canadian Jim Long in a closely contested match. After initially taking a 4-1 lead, Gates faced a strong challenge as Long surged ahead with a three-leg burst, leading 7-6 at one point. However, Gates managed to equalize, forcing a deciding leg where he survived two match darts from Long before clinching the title with a double eight. Gates’s victory not only cements his legacy in the CDC Continental Cup but also paves the way for his participation in prestigious upcoming tournaments, including the World Darts Championship and the bet365 North American Championship at Madison Square Garden next year.
