Wright Edges Menzies Thriller as De Decker and Wade Shine in Prague!

Peter Wright kicked off his title defense at the Gambrinus Czech Darts Open with a thrilling victory over Cameron Menzies, winning 6-5 in a deciding leg on Friday. The first round of the European Tour’s final event featured 16 matches at PVA EXPO in Prague, with the competition for European Championship qualification taking center stage. Wright, the reigning European Champion, faced a strong challenge from Menzies but managed to secure his place in the next round with a decisive 14-dart finish after establishing leads of 2-0, 4-2, and 5-3 during the match.

Other notable performances included Mike De Decker, who continued his momentum after recently winning the BoyleSports World Grand Prix by defeating Brett Claydon 6-1, and James Wade, who dominated Daniel Markovsky with a 6-1 victory, averaging 105.67. Nathan Aspinall also advanced with a convincing 6-1 win over Michal Smejda, wrapping up the match with a 114 checkout. Meanwhile, former World Champion Jonny Clayton eliminated UK Open champion Dimitri Van den Bergh 6-2, while Raymond van Barneveld and Jermaine Wattimena also secured places in the second round. The tournament continues with further matches scheduled for Saturday, featuring top players like Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries.
