Plaisier’s Breakthrough: Claims First PDC Title at PC28!

Wesley Plaisier achieved a remarkable milestone by claiming his first senior PDC title at Players Championship 28 in Wigan, defeating Josh Rock in a nail-biting final that ended 8-7. This victory is particularly significant as Plaisier becomes only the fourth player in PDC history to win a ranking title without holding a PDC Tour Card. Throughout the final, Plaisier showcased his resilience by surviving six match darts from Rock, expressing disbelief and joy at his achievement. He credited his strong performance throughout the year, including a comeback from 5-3 down against Jose de Sousa in the quarter-finals, as factors that led him to victory.

The final was filled with tension as Rock initially took a 4-3 lead with a stunning 111 checkout. However, Plaisier fought back, winning four of the next six legs to reach 7-6. Rock managed to level the match with a crucial 112 checkout, but he ultimately squandered six match darts at doubles, allowing Plaisier to clinch the title with a decisive shot on double top. Plaisier’s path to the final included victories over notable players like Matt Campbell and Danny Noppert, while Rock’s impressive performances earlier in the tournament included a high average of 110.89. The PDC ProTour continues with the Gambrinus Czech Darts Open, marking the end of the European Tour for the season.
