Gary Anderson Emerges as BoyleSports’ 4/1 Second Favourite After Strong First Round Performance

Gary Anderson has emerged as BoyleSports’ 4/1 second favorite to win the World Grand Prix title after a stunning performance in the first round at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester. The two-time World Champion knocked out second seed Michael Smith, a significant upset that led to his odds being slashed from 10/1 to 4/1. This follows a day of surprises, including the elimination of six-time winner Michael van Gerwen, shifting the tournament dynamics.

With Anderson’s rise in the betting odds, Welsh star Gerwyn Price, the 2020 champion, has now become the 7/1 third favorite, while Rob Cross sits at 9/1, and Dave Chisnall follows at 11/1. Daryl Gurney, who also achieved a remarkable victory by defeating van Gerwen, is now listed at 20/1 alongside two-time champion James Wade. BoyleSports spokesperson Brian O’Keeffe noted the intense competition, stating that players are lining up to challenge reigning champion Luke Humphries.

As the first round concludes, BoyleSports has contributed £3,740 to charity through its ‘D20 for £20’ initiative, donating £20 every time the double 20 is hit during the tournament. With 187 hits recorded after round one, the player leading the double 20 leaderboard—currently Gary Anderson with 19—will select the charity benefiting from the contributions. The second round continues, with Humphries set to face Ricardo Pietreczko as the strong favorite at 1/7.
