Four Amateur Aces Book Minehead Return

Simon Stevenson, Graham Usher, Callum Goffin and Ron Meulenkamp secured qualification for next month’s Ladbrokes UK Open after a dramatic weekend of Amateur Qualifiers.

Former UK Open quarter-finalist Stevenson confirmed his return to Minehead by progressing through Saturday’s PDC in the Community Qualifier in Plymouth. The two-time World Championship qualifier sealed his spot in the 160-player field with a commanding 7-1 win over Finlay Cleave, having averaged almost 99 in his semi-final success against John Mann.

Usher also punched his ticket via the PDC in the Community Qualifier in Worksop, producing a 4-1 victory against Tom Sawford in the decider. The former Tour Card Holder will now make his fifth UK Open appearance at Butlin’s Minehead Resort from March 6-8, after earlier wins over Sam Edmonds, Alex Jacques and Jacob Gwynne at the Manton Sports Club.

Meanwhile, Goffin and Meulenkamp advanced through the Rileys Amateur Qualifiers in Chorlton and Liverpool respectively.

Goffin raced through his opening four matches in Chorlton, dropping just two legs, before edging out William Leonard in a deciding leg and defeating Kevin Lane 5-3 to clinch qualification.

Meulenkamp will compete in his eighth UK Open after an emphatic 5-1 victory over Josh Bury in Sunday’s winner-takes-all clash. The Dutchman had earlier overcome World Championship qualifier David Davies in the semi-finals and survived three deciding-leg encounters on his route to success.

The final two Rileys Amateur Qualifiers take place in Harlow and London Victoria this weekend, while the PDC in the Community Qualifiers conclude with events in Enderby and Alfreton.
