Jurjen van der Velde secured his second Winmau Development Tour title of 2025 at Event 20 in Wigan on Sunday, defeating Henry Coates 5-2 in the final. The victory marked the fifth Development Tour title of his career, following his Event 14 triumph in May.
The Dutchman impressed throughout the tournament, whitewashing Liam Maendl-Lawrence in round four before overcoming countryman Jeffrey Keen to reach the last eight. Van der Velde then defeated Owen Bates and Jack Peet in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively, before sealing the title with a strong performance against Coates.
Van der Velde, who also holds two Challenge Tour titles, rises to fourth on the 2025 Winmau Development Tour Rankings as he aims to regain his PDC Tour Card. “Winning these events is crucial for my development and confidence,” he said, reflecting on his performance and season ambitions.
The top two players from the Development Tour rankings will earn PDC Tour Cards for 2026-27, while the top three secure spots in the 2025/26 Paddy Power World Darts Championship. The 2025 season concludes with Events 21-24 on October 11-12 in Wigan, offering Van der Velde another opportunity to strengthen his ranking and maintain momentum for next year.
