South Africa’s First World Championship Representative, Havenga, Passes Away

Wynand Havenga, South Africa’s first representative at the PDC World Darts Championship, has passed away at the age of 59. Havenga made history in 2006 by becoming the first South African to compete in the World Championship, reaching the last 16 after defeating Steve Maish and Peter Manley. He secured his spot at the championship by winning the inaugural Emperor’s Palace South African Open in the same year. He also competed in the PDC’s Australian Open Players Championship and the South African Masters.

Tributes have poured in from across the darts community, with Devon Petersen calling Havenga a “true legend” who had a profound impact on the sport in South Africa. Graham Filby also expressed his gratitude for Havenga’s mentorship and the lessons he imparted to others. The PDC has extended its condolences to Havenga’s family and friends.
