MvG Wins 2026 Bahrain Darts Masters

Michael van Gerwen opened his 2026 campaign in emphatic fashion, storming to his maiden Bahrain Darts Masters title with an 8-6 victory over fellow Dutchman Gian van Veen in Friday’s final. The three-time World Champion delivered a dominant display at Terminal 4 by Beyon, Bahrain, securing his 17th World Series of Darts crown and adding another milestone to his decorated career.

Van Gerwen set the tone early in the final, firing in spectacular 130 and 113 checkouts to race into a 3-0 lead. Although Van Veen attempted to mount a comeback, the world number four maintained control, averaging over 109 in the early stages and stretching his advantage to 6-2. A late surge from the World Championship runner-up narrowed the gap, but Van Gerwen’s composure shone through as he sealed victory with decisive 103 and 66 checkouts.

“To come here in Bahrain and win this trophy, it means the world to me,” Van Gerwen said. “It’s special because I’ve never won this before… Everywhere I go, I always want to win and I always give 100 percent.” Reflecting on his journey, he added, “I’ve had a tough few years, but it’s more important that you keep battling your own battles.”

The Dutch icon’s path to the title was equally impressive, defeating Alexis Toylo, reigning champion Stephen Bunting, and two-time runner-up Gerwyn Price en route to the final. His semi-final demolition of Price marked his 26th World Series final in just 50 appearances.

Van Veen, competing in his first Bahrain Darts Masters, enjoyed a breakthrough week, reaching his maiden World Series final after wins over Man Lok Leung, Danny Noppert, and Nathan Aspinall. Despite falling short, he remained upbeat, saying, “To be here for the first time ever, I’ve had a fantastic tournament… Michael was the deserved winner today.”
