Michael van Gerwen ended a two-year PDC Premier title drought with a record-extending sixth World Series of Darts Finals victory in Amsterdam on Sunday. The Dutch star returned to the winner’s circle at AFAS Live, defeating rival Luke Littler 11-7 in a thrilling final, adding to his previous wins at this event from 2015–2017, 2019, and 2023.
Having survived match darts in deciding-leg victories over Wessel Nijman and Rob Cross to reach Finals Day, Van Gerwen delivered three commanding performances in front of a raucous home crowd. He averaged 106 to overcome world number one Luke Humphries in the quarter-finals, before defeating Josh Rock 11-6 in the semi-finals to set up a repeat clash with Littler.

“I have goosebumps – it’s amazing to hold a trophy again,” said Van Gerwen, celebrating on stage with his daughter Zoe. “Everyone knows I’ve had a difficult time in the last few months, but to win in front of my home crowd means a lot to me. I was playing some fantastic darts, and that gives you energy, that gives you joy, and I’m really glad I could perform like this. It means the world to me. I had to dig really deep to do this. I still love what I do, and hopefully this is the beginning of a bright future for me.”
The final was tightly contested, with Littler leveling at 6-6 after an 11-darter, but Van Gerwen responded with a decisive three-leg burst and sealed victory with double five and a stunning 130 checkout. Littler, who was bidding to retain a PDC Premier title for the first time, praised his opponent afterward: “Michael was playing some of his best darts this weekend. It’s good to see him back. He’s had a tough time, but if he keeps playing like that, we’re going to have some great battles.”
