Gerwyn Price sent a clear signal to the field after a commanding opening round win at the 2025/26 Paddy Power World Darts Championship, asserting his intent to reclaim the title at Alexandra Palace on Tuesday.
The 2020/21 champion was the star of Day Six, producing a comprehensive straight-sets victory over Czech qualifier Adam Gawlas to progress to round two. Price averaged 96 and landed two 120 checkouts, showcasing his clinical finishing on the big stage.

“I believe in my own talent and my own ability,” Price said. “I just believe I’m going to win this tournament, I don’t care what the obstacles are in front of me. I know it’s going to be very tough, whoever I play, but I’m definitely coming through every game.”
Dutch number two Danny Noppert also impressed with a 3-1 victory over fellow countryman Jurjen van der Velde. Noppert produced a late surge, including finishes of 88 and 135 and a fourth-set average of 110, securing his first World Championship win since 2022. “That was a really tough game,” he admitted. “I think the key moment was the 88 finish on the bull to make it 2-1, and I was really pleased with that moment! I’m going to take it step-by-step.”
Chris Dobey overcame a mid-game wobble to beat China’s number one Xiaochen Zong 3-1, closing out with an 11-darter. “I’m going to have to be at my best against Andrew,” Dobey said, looking ahead to a round two clash with Andrew Gilding.
Scott Williams was in imperious form against Paolo Nebrida, averaging over 99 and hitting a sublime double-double 92 finish, while debutant Justin Hood impressed with a 3-0 victory over Nick Kenny, averaging 99.59 and landing five 180s.
Australia’s Joe Comito stunned Niko Springer 3-1, and Ricardo Pietreczko ensured a third consecutive opening round win with a 3-1 success over Jose de Sousa. Meanwhile, Alan Soutar survived a marathon encounter against Teemu Harju despite missing 15 match darts.
The World Championship continues Wednesday as James Wade, Martin Schindler, and five-time champion Raymond van Barneveld begin their campaigns.
