Heta Eyes Breakthrough Run at Ally Pally

Damon Heta is determined to achieve something special as he prepares to face Switzerland’s number one Stefan Bellmont at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship on Sunday evening. The Australian number one returns to Alexandra Palace for his sixth appearance, hoping to turn confidence and experience into a deep run.

Heta’s 2024 campaign at Ally Pally ended in mixed emotions, exiting in the last 32 to Luke Woodhouse despite landing the tournament’s second nine-dart finish. His 2025 season has been challenging on the big stage, with early exits in several majors, although two Players Championship titles underline his enduring quality. Encouraged by his 3-1 opening win over Steve Lennon, the world number 16 believes momentum is building.

“I was up for it, I was absolutely buzzing. I think from first walking through that door, my spirit was really high,” exclaimed Heta.
“I’ve done alright this year. It feels like it’s been my worst year, but I’ve done alright compared to most, so if this is my bad moment, things are looking good for me.”

Reflecting on last year’s dramatic loss to Woodhouse, Heta insists he has grown from the experience.
“It was a great moment last year, don’t get me wrong,” he added.
“The over celebration, the highs and the lows, and it all happened in one game. It was a massive learning curve for myself.
“This year, happy days. We’ll get on with the job, and hopefully I’ll go really far to be honest.”

Buoyed by extensive practice alongside Gian van Veen, Stephen Bunting and Jermaine Wattimena, Heta feels ready to deliver.
“I feel like I’ve always got one way and that’s up. I’m just a hard worker and things are going to happen for me, that’s how I see it.”
